The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting for various positions, offering to hire local residents to help with the upcoming 2010 Census. In order to have an accurate and successful Census in 2010, they need your help, NOW.
The Census Bureau is required by law to keep all collected data confidential, and cannot even share it with other federal agencies. However, the non-personal statistics that are generated from the confidential data, is very important, and is used in part to determine each community's representation in government, as well as help direct federal funds to local programs and projects, like road repairs and equipment, and other community needs. For us here in Goshen, it's important to make sure that Goshen residents fill out the federal Census survey, so we can be accurately counted. The Census Bureau is depending on people from Goshen to help get this job done, by hiring for a wide range of positions, including Crew Leaders, supervisors, and door-to-door census takers. Depending on the job you will be offered, the pay can range from $14.50/hour to over $17.00/hour (including time in training), and hours are flexible. It’s only part-time, so it could fit into anyone’s schedule.
Anyone interested will have to fill out an application, and take a 30-minute test. Everyone who passes the test, and meets several other requirements, is placed on a list, from which the Census Bureau makes job offers. You can’t work for the Census unless you are on the list of qualified applicants, after taking the test.
To help support local residents who want to take advantage of this opportunity, the Goshen Town Offices have allowed the Census to set up testing times at the Town Hall. A Census Recruiter will be available to answer questions, administer the test, and help with the job applications. The testing times are:
Tuesday February 2, 2010 at 2:30 pm
Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 2:30 pm
Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Contact the Census Bureau at 1-866-861-2010, to reserve your spot for the test. For additional information, visit them on the Internet at www.2010censusjobs.gov. The U.S. Census Bureau is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
