Mission

The Board of Health is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code (105 CMR 410.000), which state the minimum standards for fitness for human habitation of a dwelling, as well as address parcels of land that may impact health and well being.

The basic intent of the Code is to provide tenants, landlords, and owners of property with a set of minimum standards to ensure safe and sanitary housing. The Code contains aspects that apply to all properties—residential or commercial—including those occupied solely by an owner.

If you have a housing concern or wish to file a complaint with the Board of Health concerning housing in Ashfield, Goshen, Williamsburg, or Whately, please contact the Foothills Health Agent at 413-268-8404.
